The 7 Deadly Sins

The prompt from Sahm to compose cinquains of the 7 deadly sins (or 7 heavenly virtues) got me inspired to do not one, but all 7.  er… 14.  I’ll do the other 7 in the next post, just to keep it uncluttered.

Lust

Sweet lies;
Eternity-
Wrapped empty promises.
Forever only lasts until
The end.

Sloth

Observe,
But never act.
Bring the world to focus,
While through the lens of distant eyes
They die.

Gluttony

Nothing’s
Ever enough.
The more I think I need
To stuff the hole, the emptier
I feel.

Greed

Two bucks:
Useless to me
But to you, a full meal.
Stomach growls, but you can’t have them;
They’re mine.

Wrath

Blinded;
Fear ignites me,
Twisting inside.  Lacking control,
I lash out, not caring where my
Fists land.

Envy

Desire
Thy neighbor’s wife,
That picture-perfect life,
Six figures and a Porsche.  They should
Be mine.

Pride

My words,
Clanging symbols;
Commanding attention,
Only to hear my own voice say
Nothing.

  1. Wow, I could not pick a favourite among these even if you threatened me with a gun. I would love to see the virtues versions from your pen as well.
